Camelon Juniors vs Ormiston

This game started on a crisp (read, very chilly!) Autumn afternoon with a bright and low sun.  Carmuirs Park looked amazing for this return to league action for the mighty Mariners.

The Management Team went with a different formation for this outing, adopting a 4-2-3-1 set up which the Mariners took a little while to settle into but Ormiston also struggled to deal with.  This meant the early stages were a tight battle with Ormiston seeing a fair amount of the ball.  We had many chances either off target or kept out by their keeper or the woodwork.  Eventually, Alan Docherty broke the deadlock after a searching run from out wide ended with a fine finish.  The half continued with a nervy feel and reserve keeper Brett Young, making his debut for the team, was called into action although was never really troubled.  Then, just before half time, Alan Sneddon spotted the Ormiston keeper off his line and, from at least 40 yards out, sent a searching ball that found its way into the net.  This fantastic strike was worthy of its status as our 50th League/Cup goal of the season, and rounded off the first half.

We started strong in the second half and, 5 minutes in, following a bit of pinball in the 6 yard box and borderline goal line clearances, the Assistant Referee awarded a goal.  A bit of a melee followed resulting in the booking of a couple of Ormiston players and ultimately, a 3rd goal to Camelon.  It took a bit of off pitch discussion but after the match, the goal was confirmed as being attributed to Andy Kay.

Just after the hour mark, having been peppering the goal with numerous shots throughout the game, Kieran Anderson finally found the back of the net.  Chances continued including some for Ormiston – one of which brought a great save from Brett Young. Then in the final 6 minutes, we doubled the scoreline from 4 to 8 with another one for Sneds, one for Conor McKenzie, and two more for Kieran Anderson giving him a hat-trick and taking him to 25 for the season already.

The win takes us back up to 4th in the league which is still to settle down with lots of early cup matches, and spurs us on for a further league match next week at Craigroyston.
