Mati Zata: Lochore Welfare Victory, Syngenta Focus

We caught up with midfielder Mati Zata to get his thoughts on last weeks win away to lochore Welfare and also his thoughts on going into Friday’s derby game against Syngenta.

When asked to give his thoughts on last weeks win away to Lochore Welfare, Mati commented:

Saturday was a hard fought, three deserved points. First half we showed our quality to go two goals up but as the pitch cut up towards the end of the first half, we knew we had to dig our heels in, roll up our sleeves and get to work cause we knew they would flood players forward early on. It worked for them but we showed great resilience to hold that score line then kill the game off with a third goal.

When asked to give his thoughts on going into Friday’s derby game against Syngenta, Mati commented:

Going into Friday, we all know it’s going to be a tough game, so we all need to show that last Saturday’s game wasn’t a one off , hopefully we show that and get into the next round and kick on from there.

U20s Development Squad Sponsors required

The Camelon Juniors u20s Development Squad is seeking sponsors for its home and away match kits.

The u20s play in the Lowland Development League and as part of the CJFC u18s squad taking part in this year’s Scottish FA Youth Cup.

Sportsmans Dinner Review

Over 100 people – supporters, friends, sponsors, players, coaches, management and committee – gathered in Larbert’s Dobbie Hall on a cold and wet Saturday evening for the annual Camelon Juniors Sportsman’s Dinner. (Click any of the images below to see a larger version)

On arrival, the bar – provided by our friends at Galaxy Sports Little Kerse – was the first port of call for many once they had been grabbed for the Pick a Team competition. Our compere for the evening – Peter Brown – soon called everyone to order and introduced our Chairman, Eric Henry, to formally welcome everyone to the evening in what was his first formal activity in this role. He then welcomed club Chaplain, Dan Rous, to say grace before we sat back for the meal, provided by Alex Graham Bakers & Catering.

Once we had enjoyed our meal of Lentil Soup followed by a choice of Chicken in a Peppered Sauce or Steak Pie, then Apple Pie for dessert, we had a quick game of Heads or Tails and then it was time for our speakers.

First up was former Scottish Grade 1 Referee John Rowbotham. As well as taking charge of many premier league matches, including 13 ‘old firm’ games – many controversial – John was also a FIFA referee for 50 International Games including 4 World Cup Qualifiers. He was also in charge of the 1995 Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Dundee United.

John stamped his authority on the evening very early on, by bringing out the referee’s foam spray to draw a line on the stage. Despite being a fan’s favourite, John, with his instantly recognisable 6’3″ frame and shaved head, took a firm grip on the crowd as he shared many memories and stories from his career.

After a quick break, Peter Brown took us through our auction lots for the evening with a range of signed football shirts up for grabs. Thanks to all who contributed to this part of the evening.

It was then time for our second speaker of the evening, former St Mirren, West Ham and Celtic striker, Frank McAvennie who amongst many accolades, helped Celtic win the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Cup double, and also gained 5 international caps.

Frank was very popular with the crowd, and recounted many tales from his career both on and off the pitch with stories filling us in on some of the background in the changing room and the bar!

It was then time for the raffle including many prizes from local businesses, before Chairman, Eric Henry, brought the evening to a close. A good time was had by all.

The committee of Camelon Juniors FC would like to thank everyone who came to the evening and made it the success it was, especially Stevie Barr and the Galaxy Sports team, and Alex Graham and his catering team, plus all who donated auction and raffle prizes, and to all who financially contributed to the evening.

New Commercial Director

Camelon Juniors Football Club is strengthening its senior management team to deliver an ambitious strategy over the next five years that includes growing revenues, plans for a community sports hub and football training academy.

In pursuing this growth and modernisation strategy, the Club has appointed Stewart McKay as Commercial Director.

We’re really pleased to welcome Stewart to the club.

Sponsorship and Sports Chaplaincy

We were very pleased to welcome a new pitchside advertiser this week, in the form of Falkirk Vineyard Church who meet in the nearby Camelon Community Centre. As part of their Christian faith and outreach, they support people and organisations in and around Falkirk, and have made many links with groups around Camelon since relocating to the Community Centre in August 2017. Their Senior Pastor, Andrew McNinch, who leads the Church together with his wife Lorraine, took no time at all to approve this support of the Football Club for the next 2 years. He enjoys watching a match at Carmuirs Park – what he describes as “real and proper football” (well, he is a Liverpool fan!) – along with a pie and a cup of bovril, but more than that, as a Community focused church, he was more than happy, along with the trustees of the Church, to financially support a Community focused football club.

For the club, Chairman Alex Graham says “we’re really grateful for all our sponsors and advertisers. There’s not a lot of money around in the Junior League so this help is really beneficial for the club and we’d love to welcome even more companies or organisations to support us in this way. It’s great too when they can offer that wee bit more as well in terms of developing our place as a local community club.”

In addition to providing sponsorship by placing this pitchside board at Carmuirs Park, Falkirk Vineyard Church also provide and support our Club Chaplain, Dan Rous, who has been with the club for a few months. He is a member of the Church and a Camelon resident, and is serving and supporting the club at all levels as required, and helping to build links in the community. He’s a regular face at our Thursday training sessions and at all home games, plus attends to a number of tasks behind the scenes including running our Social Media. He is there to lend a confidential listening ear to players, management and committee alike, and to provide an encouraging word when needed. Sports Chaplaincy is growing across the Sport, with over 110 chaplains in football clubs in Scotland alone. We at Camelon Juniors FC are very pleased to be benefiting from Dan’s voluntary support of everyone at the club.
