Camelon Juniors announce new Charity Partner

Camelon Juniors are delighted to announce that our official Charity Partner will be Maggie’s Forth Valley. The partnership will see Maggie’s take pride of place on the back of our strips for what is a very special season for the club, as we mark our centenary year together with it being 25 years since our famous Scottish Junior Cup win.

The club will be donating a percentage from sales of this season’s replica shirts to help raise funds for the centre along with other fundraising activities during the season.

Tony Smith, CJFC Club Secretary, commented “I don’t think there is anyone at the club who hasn’t been inspired by Cammy (Cameron Shanks) with the journey he’s been on and the fantastic fund raising he’s done for the Centre. It’s really opened our eyes to the work that Maggie’s do and the difference it makes. As a club we want to help raise further awareness of Maggie’s and do what we can to help raise valuable funds for them.”

Speaking for Maggies, Cristina Pouso, Centre Fundraising Manager Forth Valley said “We are delighted and proud that Camelon Juniors have chosen Maggie’s Forth Valley as their charity partner. We wish the team all the best for the next season. This partnership will help us raise the money needed to provide our free programme of support to anyone affected by cancer especially through this difficult time. We have moved our support online to adapt to the current situation, but our centres are now open as people need us more than ever. Partnerships like this help us raise the funds we need but also to raise awareness that we are here with you when you need us.”

Club statement

As you may know, 1920 was the year that Camelon Juniors Football Club, as we know it, was founded. As a committee, we had grand plans to celebrate it and hopefully we will still be able to do these down the line.

However, in the midst of a global pandemic we’ve found a new way to mark the occasion. Many of our players, coaches, volunteers and staff are now helping to distribute food to the most vulnerable in our community, in partnership with the Camelon Community Hub. We are also going to be helping to look after the children of front line staff over the Easter break by delivering sporting activities at the local hub school with Falkirk Community Trust.

Our community has stood with us for 100 years and now we stand with them. I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate our club centenary than this.

Taking this one step further, the committee have decided that NHS staff will receive free entry to all our games next season. Simply show your ID badge, come in and be part of our family. It’s just a small thank you from us to you.

CJFC 2005s step up to the plate

Despite being the team who’ve had the hardest of seasons having to drop a league and without a win all year, our Youth Academy 2005s team have stepped up to support local people in need. Most of the boys have never played football before this season and this is very much a community level team, which makes their gesture even more meaningful.

At the instigation of their Club Secretary Cat Milne, the boys have used some of their fund raising money that they’d been saving, to purchase food, cleaning products and toiletries (pictured) and have donated them to our charity partner, Love Falkirk. This is an outreach programme run by Falkirk Vineyard Church who work from an office in our ground to support those in most need in our community through the provision of food parcels, household items, toiletries and a spirit of community.

Our Club Sports Chaplain Dan Rous, who is supported by Falkirk Vineyard Church and Sports Chaplaincy Scotland, was on hand to receive the donation from the 2005s. He said, “this is a fantastic boost to the practical provision that our Love Falkirk volunteers are undertaking. They’re pretty busy at the best of times, but are now receiving more and more calls for support from social workers in these difficult days. I’m here to support the general needs of everyone involved at Camelon Juniors FC so it’s nice that the club as a whole are stepping up their support in return. Tony Smith asked me to set up the collection point for people to bring food donations in and we’ve had a number of people take up that invitation. The support that our Love Falkirk volunteers will be giving will only increase over the coming weeks, but together with the whole Falkirk Vineyard Church family, we will serve people as best we can for as long as we can.”

Well done to all at the 2005s for this gesture. We’re proud of you as always.

CJFC invite Thomas Cook employees and affected customers to this Saturdays match

Everyone at CJFC was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Thomas Cook’s demise this morning. We feel especially for local people who worked for the company, and those who have had their holidays cancelled as a direct result.

There’s obviously nothing we can do for the company, but we can do something for the local people affected. So as a small token of support, the CJFC committee wish to invite those who have lost their Thomas Cook job this week and also those who have had their Thomas Cook holiday cancelled, to come and watch our first team play this Saturday for free. Staff should make themselves known at the gate and holiday makers should bring their booking.

The match, against Crossgates Primrose, kicks off at 2:30pm, but allow plenty of time to get through the gate. We look forward to welcoming you and hopefully taking your mind off things at least for 90 minutes.

More History Making from the mighty Mariners

We are about to make even more history!

This weekend will see the largest number of teams ever playing as part of the CJFC family, as the youth teams seasons kick off.

In addition to our First Team playing their Football Nation Qualifying Cup match at home to Heriot Watt University (the first ever meeting of these teams), we’re so proud to say that six, yes SIX other teams will walk out onto various football parks in the area wearing the CJFC strip. Here’s a run down of the matches:

This is an amazing step forward for a community focussed club with huge ambitions across all age groups. So by way of encouragement, here’s some words from our Head of Youth Development, Gary Clark:

As we are about to start the season with all our youth and children’s sections, I just want to take time to wish all age groups good luck for the forthcoming season. It has been a mammoth task to get the teams up and running in such a short space of time.

I would like to thank the Chairman, Eric Henry and Club Secretary, Tony Smith, along with the rest of the committee, for their backing and patience in developing the teams to get to this stage. I also thank them for having the belief in me to build the youth and children’s system at the club. I would also like to say that the first team management and coaches having been fantastic regarding the children’s and youth teams set up and have given me great support since first joining the club.

While I would love to take the credit all to myself there is one special thank you I would like to make. This goes to Allan Morrison, the under 20s Development Secretary, who has been fantastic in building the teams with me since I first joined the club. It really has been a joint effort with a lot of phone calls in getting the teams to this stage to start the season, so, thank you Allan. I’d also like to thank Club Chaplain, Dan Rous, who has helped in building bridges within the community and schools as we widen our reach locally.

I will finish by saying that when I took the position on as Head of Youth Development, my vision was about getting kids playing football and trying to develop them in the correct way in order for them to play through our pathway or move onto bigger and better things. As a club we are really moving forward positively. What we have achieved in such a sort space of time has been fantastic and has been a real team effort. I am sure going forward, that by adding more age groups to our club, we can achieve great things at Camelon Juniors Football Club and continue to make history.

First Team Staff News – Emma Harper

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce that our Physio, Emma Harper, has agreed to stay with us for next season. Emma joined us this year having previously been at Bo’ness, and has been a great support to our young team.

Emma is often unseen but is working away in the background. She supports every training session by setting up in the changing room to deal with any injuries that need attention and is poised and ready at every match in case of any injuries to the players. This sometimes means she has nothing to do, but she still faithfully supports just in case.

Obviously we would rather we didn’t need her (!!) but injuries happen especially with the players all having other jobs as well. Her support and encouragement to players who are desperate to play is much needed, as otherwise they may be tempted to make themselves available to play and cause more damage.

We’re really grateful that Emma is remaining with us as we move forwards in the club development.

Tributes to Robin Hulett

Ahead of our match yesterday against Carnoustie Panmure, we took the time to pay tribute to committee member Robin Hulett who passed away recently. (See our main tribute here). We also included in this time, lifelong fan Alex Marshall who had also passed away in recent weeks.

A minute silence was held that was impeccably observed by everyone present and for that we give grateful thanks on behalf of the families of these fans.

Robin’s Son-in-Law Sinclair Campbell was at the match today, and captured our tribute to Robin in the video below. We have also collated all the comments shared on our Facebook pages and copy those below by way of further tribute. Robin’s funeral will take place this Friday (2 March) at Falkirk Crematorium at 1pm. All friends are respectfully invited. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of our sadly departed Mariners.

Johnny Thompson: In a week when the youth football headlines are for all the wrong reasons, it’s sad to hear about the passing of one of the guys who made so many of us love football when we were younger. During my time at ICI Juveniles in the early 80’s, Robin Hulet (along with the likes of Alex Christie, Oscar, Willie Gardiner, etc) made football, and being part of a team, far more enjoyable than it seems to be these days. Robin you were (and will remain) a legend.

Sponsorship and Sports Chaplaincy

We were very pleased to welcome a new pitchside advertiser this week, in the form of Falkirk Vineyard Church who meet in the nearby Camelon Community Centre. As part of their Christian faith and outreach, they support people and organisations in and around Falkirk, and have made many links with groups around Camelon since relocating to the Community Centre in August 2017. Their Senior Pastor, Andrew McNinch, who leads the Church together with his wife Lorraine, took no time at all to approve this support of the Football Club for the next 2 years. He enjoys watching a match at Carmuirs Park – what he describes as “real and proper football” (well, he is a Liverpool fan!) – along with a pie and a cup of bovril, but more than that, as a Community focused church, he was more than happy, along with the trustees of the Church, to financially support a Community focused football club.

For the club, Chairman Alex Graham says “we’re really grateful for all our sponsors and advertisers. There’s not a lot of money around in the Junior League so this help is really beneficial for the club and we’d love to welcome even more companies or organisations to support us in this way. It’s great too when they can offer that wee bit more as well in terms of developing our place as a local community club.”

In addition to providing sponsorship by placing this pitchside board at Carmuirs Park, Falkirk Vineyard Church also provide and support our Club Chaplain, Dan Rous, who has been with the club for a few months. He is a member of the Church and a Camelon resident, and is serving and supporting the club at all levels as required, and helping to build links in the community. He’s a regular face at our Thursday training sessions and at all home games, plus attends to a number of tasks behind the scenes including running our Social Media. He is there to lend a confidential listening ear to players, management and committee alike, and to provide an encouraging word when needed. Sports Chaplaincy is growing across the Sport, with over 110 chaplains in football clubs in Scotland alone. We at Camelon Juniors FC are very pleased to be benefiting from Dan’s voluntary support of everyone at the club.
