Committee Member Board Involvement

We’ve been meaning to share this news for a little while, but the eve of a Scottish Cup Second Preliminary Round match seems as good a time as any to do so.

As well as working hard to ensure Camelon Juniors FC keeps going through these challenging times, two of the Club’s committee members have been helping shape the wider picture of the game.

Firstly, Club Secretary Tony Smith has been welcomed onto the East of Scotland Football League board and has a responsibility for Sponsorship and Events. He is also on the working group for planning the safe return of fans back into grounds.

Secondly, Under 20s Secretary Allan Morrison has been welcomed onto the Scottish Lowland Football League Under 20 Sub Committee. This is a further step in the work undertaken to obtain Club Academy Scotland Lite accreditation last year and recognises the commitment of Camelon Juniors to ensuring the strength and success of our player pathway.

It is great to see our committee members gaining these seats at the higher level, recognising just where Camelon Juniors FC has come and where it can go to in the future.

New Main Sponsor Announced

Camelon Juniors FC are delighted to announce that Express Taxis will be the clubs main sponsor for next season. Their logo will be proudly displayed on the front of the home and away shirts in our centenary season.

Club Secretary Tony Smith commented “We’re delighted to announce this new exciting partnership and are really grateful to Express Taxis for their support. This is really massive for the club in the current times that we’ve been able to partner with such a well known local business that shares our community values.”

Camelon Juniors announce new Charity Partner

Camelon Juniors are delighted to announce that our official Charity Partner will be Maggie’s Forth Valley. The partnership will see Maggie’s take pride of place on the back of our strips for what is a very special season for the club, as we mark our centenary year together with it being 25 years since our famous Scottish Junior Cup win.

The club will be donating a percentage from sales of this season’s replica shirts to help raise funds for the centre along with other fundraising activities during the season.

Tony Smith, CJFC Club Secretary, commented “I don’t think there is anyone at the club who hasn’t been inspired by Cammy (Cameron Shanks) with the journey he’s been on and the fantastic fund raising he’s done for the Centre. It’s really opened our eyes to the work that Maggie’s do and the difference it makes. As a club we want to help raise further awareness of Maggie’s and do what we can to help raise valuable funds for them.”

Speaking for Maggies, Cristina Pouso, Centre Fundraising Manager Forth Valley said “We are delighted and proud that Camelon Juniors have chosen Maggie’s Forth Valley as their charity partner. We wish the team all the best for the next season. This partnership will help us raise the money needed to provide our free programme of support to anyone affected by cancer especially through this difficult time. We have moved our support online to adapt to the current situation, but our centres are now open as people need us more than ever. Partnerships like this help us raise the funds we need but also to raise awareness that we are here with you when you need us.”

League Announcement

Clubs in the East of Scotland League have been voting this week on proposals to end the season.

The result of this vote means that the EoSFL Board’s proposal has been supported by a majority of member clubs and the following will take effect immediately.

Final EoSFL standings for season 2019/20 be decided on Points Per Game (PPG)
Not to relegate any club from the Premier Division this season
Temporarily increase the Premier Division for one season to allow the two First Division Conference winners to be promoted
Should the Premier Division champion be promoted to the SLFL they will be replaced by the Conference runner-up club which has the highest PPG
At the end of season 2020/21 to promote each First Division Conference winner and relegate as many clubs as necessary to restore the Premier Division to 16 clubs.

Camelon voted ‘yes’ to end the season and also yes to a further proposal that if next season starts late, a cup (for example the league cup) should be withdrawn for a season. We feel that no club should be relegated as a result of this crisis and by the same token no team should be denied promotion as league winners. It’s not a perfect solution but we believe it is fair.

This outcome means that Camelon Juniors FC finish a very creditable fifth place. Although this was a shortened season it still had many highlights including playing in the Scottish cup for the first time and recording three wins over Linlithgow Rose – the 5-1 victory is one that will never be forgotten.

The Committee would like to thank all our fans, players and sponsors for their efforts this year. On a personal note, the sight of our players out delivering food to those in need at this time is by far the thing we are most proud of, as it’s shown what Camelon Juniors and the people connected with it are all about.

Please stay safe. We look forward to welcoming you back to Carmuirs Park as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

You support us – now it’s our turn

Club statement

As you may know, 1920 was the year that Camelon Juniors Football Club, as we know it, was founded. As a committee, we had grand plans to celebrate it and hopefully we will still be able to do these down the line.

However, in the midst of a global pandemic we’ve found a new way to mark the occasion. Many of our players, coaches, volunteers and staff are now helping to distribute food to the most vulnerable in our community, in partnership with the Camelon Community Hub. We are also going to be helping to look after the children of front line staff over the Easter break by delivering sporting activities at the local hub school with Falkirk Community Trust.

Our community has stood with us for 100 years and now we stand with them. I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate our club centenary than this.

Taking this one step further, the committee have decided that NHS staff will receive free entry to all our games next season. Simply show your ID badge, come in and be part of our family. It’s just a small thank you from us to you.

In recent months, Camelon Juniors FC have been assessed against the Entry level criteria of the SFA Club Licence, as part of the club’s application to become a member of the Scottish FA. The club are delighted to say that today we passed the audit, with the Licensing Committee confirming that we meet all the necessary requirements.

Club Secretary Tony Smith commented: “On behalf of the committee, we’d like to express our sincere thanks to all the people who have worked incredibly hard over the last two years to make our vision a reality. This achievement is down to the determination of people who love their club. With sponsors, fans, committee members, local businesses and our management team all pushing in the same direction, we’ve achieved something that previously seemed impossible. I can’t begin to say how proud I am of the club and everyone who has taken part in this massive project”

This has probably been the biggest team effort in 25 years – maybe even in the Clubs history – and is a huge achievement for this community focused club. This is a huge boost as Camelon Juniors FC will now celebrate its centenary next season with the addition of a Scottish Cup place.

Accreditation for CJFC u20s Development Pathway

Camelon Juniors FC are proud to announce a huge accreditation for our u20s Development Squad. Following a recent audit, we have achieved Club Academy Scotland (CAS) Lite status.

CAS is the Scottish FA’s structure that defines, operates and partially funds the Academy system in Scotland, alongside a games programme. It governs the development of players from the age of 11 to 18. Clubs are assessed against set criteria and a set of Measureable Performance Outcomes, which take into account performance in areas like domestic and international appearances for home-grown players, coaching qualifications, facilities, talent identification and sports science and medicine set-ups.

Back in March 2018, u20s Secretary Allan Morrison had a vision for how the u20s Development Squad could be and this accreditation, that is down to his hard work and tenacity, is another piece in the jigsaw to creating something unique in the local area. We join Spartans as the only clubs outside of the SPFL to have this status.

CJFC have taken time to build the u20s Development Squad over the last 18 months to become one of the best local development teams in the area. This is a squad where boys can come to further their footballing opportunities under the umbrella of the Lowland and East of Scotland Football Associations. The CAS Lite endorsement goes a long way to establishing the criteria that the Club will follow to ensure that any player coming through our player pathway to u20s development level are nurtured to move into adult football. We are also greatly assisted by Galaxy Sports Little Kerse – the home of Community Football – with access to their great playing facilities.

Some players that we have supported to move to further their development have been: Blair Hastings (East Stirlingshire); Jack Frame (West Calder); and Marcus Boyce (East Kilbride). These young lads are a credit to Camelon u20s and played a big role in the first year of the development of the club. Most recently, Jack Denham has moved on loan to Kilsyth Rangers as part of his development. Also, Grant Wotherspoon reached the final stages of selection for the Scottish School Boys International Squad.

Over the next 2 to 3 years, we have some fantastic young players in our other Academy teams that will get to play at the standard the u20s provide competitively, to continue their pathway within a development environment.

Camelon u20s will always try to improve and provide a strong development pathway for what is currently one of the youngest u20s teams in the league set-up.

The committee wish to thank Allan for his work behind the scenes to achieve this status, and for the vision for developing these aspiring young stars together with the coaching teams and Academy staff.

Committee News

The Camelon Juniors FC committee have reluctantly accepted the resignation of Chairman Eric Henry.

Eric has been a forward thinking Chairman since taking on the role in February 2018, making brave proposals to take us to a bright new future. But the time has come for him to move on to focus on other things.

Everyone at the club wish to thank Eric for all his efforts, a lot of it behind the scenes, and wish him well for the future.

The committee will meet shortly with the view of co-opting additional members, however until a new chairman is appointed, the committee will manage the club collectively so that operationally, this change should have minimal impact on the running of the club.

CJFC invite Thomas Cook employees and affected customers to this Saturdays match

Everyone at CJFC was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Thomas Cook’s demise this morning. We feel especially for local people who worked for the company, and those who have had their holidays cancelled as a direct result.

There’s obviously nothing we can do for the company, but we can do something for the local people affected. So as a small token of support, the CJFC committee wish to invite those who have lost their Thomas Cook job this week and also those who have had their Thomas Cook holiday cancelled, to come and watch our first team play this Saturday for free. Staff should make themselves known at the gate and holiday makers should bring their booking.

The match, against Crossgates Primrose, kicks off at 2:30pm, but allow plenty of time to get through the gate. We look forward to welcoming you and hopefully taking your mind off things at least for 90 minutes.
