Moving on – Blair Sneddon

Camelon Juniors FC can announce the transfer of defender Blair Sneddon to Falkirk FC on a three-year deal.

Club Secretary Tony Smith said “we’re really pleased for Blair and his family. I will miss standing with his dad at games. It really does show that you can achieve your goals if you work hard and don’t give up. I’d like to thank Andy Thomson and Gary Deans at Falkirk for their professionalism and the way they conducted the business with us.”

Manager Gordon Herd said “we’re proud to see Blair secure this full-time contract. He took some early knocks in his career but he came to us, worked hard, and allowed us to help develop him. We are delighted he’s found his form again that was backed up by him securing his place in the Scottish School Boys squad last season. He’s a great example that if you take early knocks, the door is not always shut. This is a key focus of the club to develop young players and enable them to work their way up the leagues.”

We will miss you Blair but wish you every success at Falkirk. Here’s his interview for FalkirkTV.

New Signing – Calum Gray

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Calum Gray. He has been playing at amateur level and comes at the recommendation of Assistant Manager Eamon Fullerton.

Manager Gordon Herd commented “We’re really pleased to bring Calum in. He is another young and hungry player that is keen to come to play football and provide both support and competition for Dean in goal.”

Welcome to the Mighty Mariners Calum.

New Signing – Keir Macaulay

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce the signing of Keir Macaulay on a permanent transfer from Kelty Hearts. The left back signed his first professional contract with the Fife side in 2018 and has played over 20 games for them in the Lowland League.

Manager Gordon Herd commented “We’ve been after Keir for a while to add a new dimension to our back four. He’s a very vocal player and fits the profile of the kind of young and hungry players we’re looking for. I’m grateful to the committee for backing us in this deal.”

Keir joins on a deal that will keep him at Carmuirs until at least 2022.

Welcome to the Mighty Mariners Keir.

New Signing – Stephen Docherty

Camelon Juniors are pleased to announce the signing of Stephen Docherty from East Kilbride FC.

The forward featured a number of times last season for the Lowland League club and had various clubs interested in signing him.

Stephen is no stranger to Camelon, having played against the Mariners in a cup tie last season, plus he will have heard all about what it’s like to play for the club from older brother Alan, who was our top scorer last season.

Manager Gordon Herd said “we’ve been after Stephen for a wee while and are delighted he agreed to come despite strong offers from other clubs. He will add another dimension to the side as we work towards winning the East of Scotland League. Hopefully him and his brother Alan can spur each other on!”

Welcome to the Mighty Mariners Stephen!

New (permanent) Signing – Paul Gillespie

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce the permanent signing of midfielder Paul Gillespie.

Paul joined the Mariners on loan from Alloa at the end of January and made a good impression in the few games we were able to play.

He has now agreed to make the move permanent and will be with the club until at least June 2021.

Thanks for sticking with the mighty Mariners Paul.

Player Contract News – Ryan Lockie

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce that 22 year old defender Ryan Lockie has extended his contract with us, keeping him at the club until at least June 2021.

Ryan joined us on loan from Stirling Albion in August 2017, before making Camelon his permanent home in May 2019. He brings a strong and solid presence to our defence and is always looking to push the play up the field.

Thanks for sticking with the mighty Mariners Ryan!

League Announcement

Clubs in the East of Scotland League have been voting this week on proposals to end the season.

The result of this vote means that the EoSFL Board’s proposal has been supported by a majority of member clubs and the following will take effect immediately.

  1. Final EoSFL standings for season 2019/20 be decided on Points Per Game (PPG)
  2. Not to relegate any club from the Premier Division this season
  3. Temporarily increase the Premier Division for one season to allow the two First Division Conference winners to be promoted
  4. Should the Premier Division champion be promoted to the SLFL they will be replaced by the Conference runner-up club which has the highest PPG
  5. At the end of season 2020/21 to promote each First Division Conference winner and relegate as many clubs as necessary to restore the Premier Division to 16 clubs.

Camelon voted ‘yes’ to end the season and also yes to a further proposal that if next season starts late, a cup (for example the league cup) should be withdrawn for a season. We feel that no club should be relegated as a result of this crisis and by the same token no team should be denied promotion as league winners. It’s not a perfect solution but we believe it is fair.

This outcome means that Camelon Juniors FC finish a very creditable fifth place. Although this was a shortened season it still had many highlights including playing in the Scottish cup for the first time and recording three wins over Linlithgow Rose – the 5-1 victory is one that will never be forgotten.

The Committee would like to thank all our fans, players and sponsors for their efforts this year. On a personal note, the sight of our players out delivering food to those in need at this time is by far the thing we are most proud of, as it’s shown what Camelon Juniors and the people connected with it are all about.

Please stay safe. We look forward to welcoming you back to Carmuirs Park as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

Club Secretary

Club statement

As you may know, 1920 was the year that Camelon Juniors Football Club, as we know it, was founded. As a committee, we had grand plans to celebrate it and hopefully we will still be able to do these down the line.

However, in the midst of a global pandemic we’ve found a new way to mark the occasion. Many of our players, coaches, volunteers and staff are now helping to distribute food to the most vulnerable in our community, in partnership with the Camelon Community Hub. We are also going to be helping to look after the children of front line staff over the Easter break by delivering sporting activities at the local hub school with Falkirk Community Trust.

Our community has stood with us for 100 years and now we stand with them. I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate our club centenary than this.

Taking this one step further, the committee have decided that NHS staff will receive free entry to all our games next season. Simply show your ID badge, come in and be part of our family. It’s just a small thank you from us to you.

Stay safe – stay home.

Tony Smith

Camelon Juniors FC are pleased to announce the signing of Daniel Martins on loan from Alloa.

The central defender went to Alloa from Greenock Morton and now joins Camelon till the end of the season on a development loan.

Welcome to the mighty Mariners Daniel.
