Player Pathway evidenced

Our trip to Perth to play Jeanfield Swifts this week was an extra special trip for one young player.

With two of our regular first team midfielders unavailable for the match, manager Gordon Herd turned to our under 19’s squad for a back up option. So, Keir Young became the first under 19 player to join the first team in a competitive match. He’s pictured here proudly wearing our away kit prior to the match. Whilst in the end his services weren’t required in the 90 minutes, the experience of being on the bench and getting involved in match day preparations will help Keir considerably.

Keir’s call up evidences the possibilities of the pathway within the Camelon Juniors family of clubs. We have our current set up with under 16’s, under 17’s, under 19’s, plus our first team. We’ve already announced that we’ll have an amateur team from next season and discussions are ongoing for more younger options as well. But none of these teams stand in isolation. They are all part of the big picture to enable young football players to grow, develop and to see possibilities for their career progression within the Camelon Juniors family.

This season has been one of reshaping for the future. Next season is going to be awesome! Watch this space for more….

Weather doesn’t stop play…

…well, training anyway!

It’s been another snowy week that has played havoc with the football scheduling in the SJFA and even affected many training sessions. But in the last few days, thanks to many determined people, training for Camelon Juniors FC and our Youth Development teams has continued.

On Thursday, despite snow, ice and sub zero temperatures, the team at Galaxy Sports Little Kerse managed to clear snow away so that training could go ahead for our first team.

Then today (Saturday), despite the postponement of matches for all our teams, we managed to squeeze in some extra training sessions to build on the positive growth momentum throughout.

So the first team made an extra trip to the once again cleared Little Kerse, while the 16s, 17s and 19s tried out the Olympic Hall at Camelon Community Centre.

Little Kerse provided a crisp but welcome morning training session for the Mighty Mariners. We are grateful to Stevie Barr and his team for their work this week in preparing the pitches.

The Olympic Hall provided an indoor option for our development teams which enabled round robin 5 a side and skills training for our young players. It was also beneficial to use a local facility to further support the community.

Weather permitting, the first team will be back in action this Saturday (27th) in a rearranged and reversed fixture that will see us welcome Broxburn Athletic to Carmuirs Park. The 19s welcome Falkirk in a League Cup game, the 17s travel to Cowie in the league, while the 16s are awaiting to hear their fixture.

January Fixture News

Here’s some information on our January fixtures that have been arranged so far.

Firstly, on Wednesday 3, we have rearranged our friendly with West Calder that was postponed in December. This kicks off at 7pm down at Galaxy Sports Little Kerse. Come and watch us for free!

Then on Saturdays 6 and 13, we have 2 home games back to back in the East Region Super League, against Broughty Athletic and Bo’ness United respectively. Hospitality deals will be available for the Bo’ness game so watch this space.

Finally, on Saturday 20, we have a further league match but this time on the road, over at Broxburn Athletic.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at these games and especially at our 2 home league matches. Basic admission is £6 (£3 concessions) with accompanied under 16s going free!
